Default Cool Stuff I've Seen - 11-09-2004 , 08:53 PM

just wanna thank those people out there for giving me tips on stuff i need help
on. i have another question... i've noticed some neat stuff on some sites.
for example, a log flies onto the screen and stops. another is a web site
where the text body slides down, revealing an ad, then slides back up. i'm
guessing you can put a layer inside of a table, and then move the layer around
using behaviors and the timeline. is this the correct method do that kind of
thing? i haven't tried it and wated to get anyone's thoughts on how its done.
thanks.

Hey Mike,

This is kinda cool. It's done with a timeline, but I've added a drag layer
behavior. After the "jet" lands in LA, click and drag the jet to wherever
you want. (I've had problems doing this with Macs, though).

Another use of a Timeline uses the go-to-timeline-frame-and-stop feature to
make the fishing line move on the links of this site:
http://www.salmolux.com/

I don't think I would try to nest a layer in a table, but I've put many
tables in layers.

Peadge :-)

This doesn't work on my pc (winxp, IE6). I just get the page without
any animation, and what's worse, without any links or menu. Or isn't
there a website behind it? Anyway, nothing moves :-)

No. 1. Don't ever put an absolutely positioned div (a layer) directly into
a table cell, and 2. don't use timelines unless you absolutely have to - the
code hit is big, and 3. those sites probably used Flash.

Did you press the play link at the bottom? If it still didn't play, did you
try to drag the jet, which is way to the right, with your mouse?
There is no site behind this, or at least other pages on this server are
hidden.

However, another site I have yet to finish also uses Timelines. It's the
first half of a Photoshop/ImageReady tutorial on animating a single
photograph. This site was on a server at school, and I just put it back up
to show a friend. None of the ImageReady pages have been made yet, but
Photoshop Lesson #4 is fun to play with. Other animations can be found at
the bottom of Graphics Page 2.

It's a moving Layer. Why did I need to do that for you, though? It's all
right there in the source code.

I'll let you do the next one....

You might want to check out P7's Layer AniMagic extension.

murray - haha, you're funny about the 'why did i have to do that for you' line.
i know, i know...i'm trying to do this and should have picked it up myself,
but it's soo.... nice when someone like you takes me right to it. here's what
i did - i made up my own little 'sign' [as the song said - just kidding]. but
i made a timeline layer up and also a nice short flash file. put the flash
file in a layer too. this is that site where you told me there was a bad news
- the text gets screwed up when you enlarge text in NS. for this help session,
please don't remind me of it. i have been working on tables and have seen
their benefits, along with layers. anyway... this does the weirdest thing. i
made ABSOLUTE sure that the flash movie is on a layer BELOW the order of the
flying layer. and yet, watch what happens...it flies up but goes UNDER the
flash. damn it all. i hope you can tell me why it's doing that. it's seen
at: www.bcpeeweefootball.com/dw thanks.

haha.

You CAN'T put flash content underneath html content.
Flash content will always show above any html content. No matter what
Layer order, it's just the way it is.
