Default Converting to DW file - 05-27-2008 , 01:28 PM

Not sure how to describe this problem. I noticed that some of my files that
are placed in my website folder on my hard drive are not dw file formats, i.e.,
it doesn't have the little dw icon where the kind of file is "Plain Text
Document."

For example:
Some of my .flv files are labeled kind "Movie."
Some of my .mp3 files are labeled "MP3 Audio file"

The problem is that when I try to upload these files to my server, I receive
an error that these files have been skipped.

For whatever reason, when I save .flv files they are either save as a "Movie"
or a "Plain Text Document." How can I save these files always as a "Plain Text
Document" so my server recognizes them?

Thank you.

:confused;

This is an operating system issue, not a DW problem.

This is a host problem, not a DW problem. You should ask them why you
cannot upload these files.

What application are you saving them from?

First off, FLV files are Flash Video files and MP3 files are audio files. They
are not editable in DW. So they should not have the DW logo for the their
unless you gave it to them for whatever reason.

If you select these files directly can you upload them? If not, what is the
error you are getting?

The server should not need anything to recognize these files. What you will
need to make sure is that your users have the necessary software in order to
view them properly. For FLV files they will need Flash installed. For mp3
files it should play in the browser or be downloaded into a media player for
playback like Quicktime or Windows Media Player. If you need the mp3 file to
play directly on your website you will need to embed the file into your page or
stream the audio clip from your page. There are Flash players out there that
allow you to embed them within the Flash document so that it acts like a music
player on the internet.

With both of those files there is nothing "plain text" about them. So I don't
understand what you are trying to accomplish here (outside of what has been
previously mentioned).

Yes, I understand this. But to my surprise when I go the website folder
that's on my hard drive, some of the flash video files are now "plain text
document" and even some of the mp3 files are now "plain text document."

I can easily upload the "plain text document" files, however, if I upload the
few flash videos and mp3 files that are tagged Movie and Audio, I receive the
following error from my server:

"Some files were skipped during the last operation. A list of these files has
been logged in the FTP Log Window."

When I hit "View Log" this is what I get:

Quote:
CWD /music/mp3s
250 CWD command successful.
PORT 192,168,0,3,193,40
200 PORT command successful.
TYPE A
200 Type set to A.
LIST
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for /bin/ls.

< 10-28-05 10:37AM 2028074 fortuna_dame.mp3
< 12-28-07 11:58AM 1380421 Fortuna_freestyle.mp3

< 12-28-07 11:58AM 2708 songsmp3.html
< 226 Transfer complete.

The file "music/mp3s/01 Loved by You.mp3" was skipped because the old remote
file could not be deleted.

I can contact my server and discuss this problem with them if you think it's
on their end.

Thanks so much for your quick reply.

Fran

This is an operating system issue. Your OS has become confused about which
application to associate with that file extension. It's a purely cosmetic
problem.

The uploading issue is definitely a host issue.

This is so not true. I am getting the "The file "xx" was skipped because the
old remote file could not be deleted." a lot and is very very very very
annoying. If i use explorers ftp or any other ftp client it works perfectly. I
am using DW CS3.
