Controlling access to a site or pages

As has been the case, this isn't so much a DW question (although since I use DW
I'm always interested in it's impmentation), as much as a general web site
management question. This forum has been very helpful with these types of
questions in the past.

I want to learn (and implement) some basic site and page access rules.
Although I may have slightly more sophisticated rules in the future, all I want
to do to start is restrict access to a site to less than a dozen specified
accounts and passwords I control.

In other words, I want to be able to pass out account IDs and passwords to
selected individuals which will be queried when they access a site (page).

I'm assuming this means I need to learn a little about interfacing web clicks
with database queries (I'm assuming Access).

Is there a simple tutorial available somewhere?

What scripting is available on your hosting server? ASP, PHP or other?

There are a few options - there's the ability to restrict access to pages
within DW. Have a look under Server Behaviours for User Authentication.

I've been using Web Assist's Security Assist which is a bit more intuitive,
and creates pages for you, and if there's a database backend storing records of
your users, including automatic password reminders kind of thing.

Or, you can put the pages / files relevant in a particular folder, and put
password protection on that folder on your site's control panel that the
hosting company provides.
