Normally I would not classify Wordpress as a CMS. |
The big issue is 'what, exactly, is a CMS?' It's really become quite a
generic term and deciding which to use really requires a lot of planning,
strategy, comparison, and trial and error, unfortunately.
Any CMS or CMS-like product will meet the 'allow client to update the site'
requirement. The key to narrowing down the list is getting more specific
with the requirements list.
As for WordPress, it's mentioned so often because it does, indeed, allow
just that...a web interface for a person to update pages on their site. It's
defininitely not the most scalable nor feature-rich CMS out there. That
said, I think a lot of projects fail because they invest in a CMS that is
simply more than they needed and the added baggage becomes a problem.
