Default Considering Buying a Mac - 08-01-2005 , 09:12 PM

I am very frustrated with Windows and its ability for creating and editing
professional videos. I enjoy video editing and I use to work for a local ABC
affiliate as an assistant director. I have edited before with many different
systems but never a MAC. By trade I am a computer software developer and
primary develop in traditional ASP and for the last year have started in
ASP.Net. My question is:

Can I still use my preferred ASP development tool (Dreamweaver) the same way
that I use it now. For instance I host websites for my friends and have my own
Microsoft 2003 Server for IIS and SQL server 2000. Can I still write the same
code for connecting to these systems using Dreamweaver on MAC.? Any articles
would help in making this crucial decision.

Thanks!

You will still be able to write the code on a Mac with no problems. Your
problem will arise with testing. Unfortunately you will not be able to test
the scripts locally given that Macs run Apache2 and PHP4 (those are
preinstalled) as well as the fact that ASP is designed to run specifically on
Windows. Yes there are ways to run it on Linux machines but not with the full
functionality.

So if you don't mind testing remotely, then yes it is a great system to work
with and you won't be disappointed with Tiger. However, if you require local
testing you will have to stick it out for a little while longer until Vista is
released.
