Default Connection to GoDaddy sometimes works sometimes does not... - 03-25-2009 , 01:18 PM

Hi,

I am using dreamweaver cs4 on winxp (timewarner cable connected direct
to router). Sometimes ftp works great and sometimes it lags then
fails. I was getting around this by toggling "use passive FTP"
everytime it lagged. and that worked for a while - though not
enjoyable. Now it's just acting funky making complaints about enabling
for contribute. If I chose yes, it fails and tells me it can't access
the design files then it show another failure for ftp connection and
makes the 15 recomendations (one of which is toggle use passive ftp.)
If I chose dont enable for contribute, sometimes it works. But if it
does, it's only for one upload or so then everything craps out again.

I also experience that I can test the connection to the server most of
the time but that does not mean I can actually upload or download.

I don't think it's anything to do with username, ftp host, etc since
ftp does work now and then. I am also savvy that my connection to the
internet is not going in and out as well. I also have sites on
dreamhost and never have a problem with them.

I have in the past, in a pinch, used firezilla to upload and download
files when dreamweaver is failing me. But the problem with this is
that when I have the two programs running fillezilla tends to report
that there are too many connections (2) and fails and then I need to
reboot to reset everything. But if I don't use dreamweaver at to ftp
and just need to upload or download a ton of files, I never have a
problem with fillezilla.

So I think I pinned the problem on dreamweaver WITH godady.

Thoughts? As you can see I just keep trying things but it feels like
black magic to me.

Thanks!

- Matt
