Default Connecting to Mysql - 09-18-2006 , 08:28 AM

I reinstalled dreamweaver 8, and now I want to connect to Mysql on my local
computer (local testing as I cannot use Dreamweaver to connect to my remote
database). But there's something wrong with those damned Dreamweaver connection
scripts, its giving me an error message. When I load the page in my browser
(outside Dreamweaver) it connects to my db fine. I have been trying for hours-
its a sort of torture. Help! What can I do?
Tony

What happens when you try the local connection? And why can't you use DW to
connect to the remote database?

question- what exactly IS the error message?

The most frequent cause of an error at this step is not having the correct
URL PREFIX in the testing server settings. It should be the url needed to
"see" the local site, like http://localhost/foldername

second most frequent- not having a working local server

note- You can use the remote site as the testing server.
Dw does not connect directly to the remote MySQL db, it uploads a script
which connects. So it's a local connection on the remote.

dear Murray and Allan,

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. When I fill in the MySQL connection
dialog box and press the select button for databases, I get 'Error 404 file
Not Found The testing server for this site does not map to the
http://localhost/iovendocasa/-mmServ...TTPDB.php?Type
MYSQL&ConnectionString=host=localhost ..etc.etc. (I had to copy out this stuff
by hand).
But this is exactly the address I type in to my browser to open the
MMHTTPDB.php file outside Dreamweaver. Also my local Apache server is running
fine as I can open the dynamic files I create in my browser without any
problem. I have tried using the remote server as testing server and I get the
same error message. But as I do not have broadband here (in the Tuscan hills)
using the remote server for testing would be very slow and I have to pay for my
connection. So I am quite frustrated. Although I am not an expert I have tried
the obvious things (all but one possibly) Any suggestions?
Tony
