Default Connecting Mac DW8 to IIS6? - 09-06-2006 , 01:26 PM

We're setting up a new web server here and the techie guys are running IIS6.
We're trying to figure out the best way to get Mac Dreamweaver 8 to connect to
it. They don't want to use FTP for security reasons, they basically want me to
connect to it over the local network. They're kind of lost though because
they're not used to supporting Macs, and I don't know how to make it work, so,
what's the best way to connect to IIS6?

I'm able to browse to the server just under the Finder and connect to it and
see all the files, but it won't let me add anything new or change anything old.
It seems like a permission problem, but I'm set to have full access to it. I
even watched the guy give me full access. if I to a Get Info on the server's
icon, it says I have read & write privelages, but I don't. Like I said it seems
like permissions, but as far as we can tell those permissions are set as they
should be. Anyone know what might be wrong?

So, aside from that, is there a better way to connect? I notice I can set up
the remote info to use RDS and webDAV, would they work better? Or do I really
just have to convince them that I have to use FTP? I was hoping to not have to
use FTP as well, so that I don't have to keep a local copy of the site. We want
to work right on the server, which is a testing server, not the live one.. we
basically get the files the way we want in the testing environment then push em
to the live server. It would even be great if I could do something where the
testing server is the "local" version in the site window, and the "remote" site
is the live one, but first thing's first.

Anyone have any ideas?

DW doesn't 'connect' to IIS at all. IIS is a web server. Your browser
connects via HTTP.

Then just connect to the windows share on the network. This is window
networking...nothing to do with IIS.

Who are 'you'? I mean, who did they give full access to? Your windows
network login? If so, that's likely not who's connecting. Your 'owner' role
in OSX is likely the 'person' that is connecting...that would be who they
need to grant access to.

SFTP would likely be easiest for you. And it's secure for them.

Worst case? If this is an intel mac, go install windows on it and run the PC
version of DW. ;o)

*if* it's installed/setup. by default there is no SFTP under IIS.
