Default "Coming Soon" page. - 11-13-2004 , 12:21 AM

Hi.

I recently decided to create a site that is related to the game industry. This
is something I have thought on long and hard. I need a "coming soon" page that
is attractive and representative about what the site is going to be about - I
also need to to represent the tone I am going for.

I have ideas for this, however, I do not know which programs from Macromedia
Studio MX 2004 to use to achieve these creations. I want something that is
crisp, colorful, and moves. I would like it to be animated. I have all kinds of
products, but not much hardware - I am willing to purchase those though. I am
thinking a scanner, a drawing pad, and anything else recommended.

I just do not understand how to achieve a professional image, most of my stuff
comes out fuzzy or lacking precision that is seen on a site like this.

Can anyone help me? If you would like to see examples of the feel I am looking
for, let me know please.

Thanks
Ari

yes please give us exaples of the feel (website exaples would be great) , as
well as what do you mean by your stuff comes out fuzzy??? what comes out fuzzy?
pictures?? animation? You have to explain more of what your problems are. what
your objective is? do you want your whole page to be animated or what (so it is
all like an intro?) and do you care about search engines or not (are they a
priorety). Layth

Use Flash if you like animation.
Search for tutorials online. Buy a book. Visit the flash newsgroup, etc.

Hello

I think you might need to do a search on Google or whatever and look at
other games sites, you will find inspiration from other sites as I have from
this:

OK.

What I believe to be "fuzzy" is low-quality pictures, background colors,
buttons that are not stylish, and the site looks very homemade. I have the
ability to purchase equipment or software for a "professional look."

My site is not a site where you play Shockwave games - it is a site for all
things related to the game industry, such as news, jobs, etc.

I need a way to create a small animation that can include audio. I am thinking
of having a character I created (something you'd see in a game) walk on to the
screen from off screen and say, "Coming Soon."

I do not know how to get that idea from my mind onto your monitor. Do I need
to draw the character then scan it and animate it in Flash or something? Then -
how do I add audio?

It needs to represent the future look of my site which will be crisp,
organized, and dynamic.

I agree with the person that said I needed to use Flash. I will pick up a
book. Here are some examples of sites that I feel have a professional and
well-done look to them:

http://www.gdconf.com/

I hope that this gives an idea of what I am looking for. I understand that
these are developed by a team of experts, but I want to know which programs you
think are used and any specific elements you feel distinquish these sites from
basic HTML sites.

Thank You again.

all you need is Dreamweaver, Flash and Photoshop (or FireWorks).
Then you need to know how to use Dreamweaver, Flash and Photoshop.
Knowing how to use Dreamweaver is somewhat an abstract notion, that
entails knowing at least the basics of html and CSS.
So maybe you should buy a book about both, or a book about Dreamweaver.
Knowing how to use Flash normally requires a lot of time and study (it
is not an intuitive program).
As for PhotoShop, it is the most intuitive of the three.
If you don't know the basics of any of this, you should probably hire a
professional web deisgner, or consider yourself at the begining of a
very long and steep learning curve.

Good luck

I know how to use the Studio MX 2004 products. I also understand the time and
frustration that will come with developing my site.

I am also the type who is willing to sit down and study something to learn it
inside out. I just was wondering if there were any outside programs or hardware
needed to create professional websites.

Thanks

You also need to have good design skills. Having all those products doesnt mean
it will come out 'nice' looking. If you really want a professional looking site
you need to go to professional designers. A nicely designed site isnt something
you can just want and wish to happen. Good Luck

I get the feeling a lot of you think I am wishing and hoping for a nice site
without knowing what I am doing. I am pretty aware of the time, money, and
skills it takes to produce a "kick ass" site in the design department and I
have friends who will be helping me with the design if I need it.

I simply wanted to know what types of programs you guys think they use (the
websites I used for examples) to make colorful, vibrant, and attractive sites.
In the past, I have created some what dynamic sites for small business that
were mostly text based with sometimes a shopping cart.

For this site, it represents my personality mixed with the personality of
gamers. I wanted to know if their were some programs that would help me produce
these results.

Thanks
