I don't believe there is such an entity. Can you use a graphic?

Thanks, Murray. No I can't , I am asking on behalf of someone else who is
putting all of Shakespeare's sonnets on line both in the original and in a
Dutch translation.

Adrianna, this is all I could find; it does not include the s,
unfortunately, but does have a few others:

http://www.georgetown.edu/faculty/ba.../oe-chars.html

FWIW, I don't think Shakespeare's language can really be called "old"
English. Even Chaucer was only middle English. Shakespeare's English
is actually referred to as early modern.

Thank you, Bonnie! You are right about the 'old' not being old - I wasn't being
scientific ;-)

My pleasure. You can find a lot of unusual characters by going to
www.unicode.org. All the references are given in hexadecimal, but the
PHP hexdec() function converts hexadecimal to decimal. You then just use
the decimal code point as a numeric entity.

Simple, really. The only problem is hunting for the right character in
the Unicode code charts. Unicode attempts to cover every written
language living or dead, so it was bound to be there somewhere.
