changing after created

I am creating an html file to be emailed. I started with a template with 2
columns. I put an image in the left column and text in the right. I also
changed the background color of the entire page. It looks great in the
previews of all browsers through Dreamweaver.

However, when it is actually sent, the background color becomes gray and the
images and text all flow in a line top to bottom instead of side by side.

Any ideas?

Where you using an external style sheet? If so that's why. We can't really make to many other guesses though without seeing your code.

I wasn't intentionally using an external style sheet. Is that automatic when I start from a Dreamweaver template? Is there a way to turn it off?
