Default Change Location Of Site Cache Files - 06-25-2004 , 06:25 AM

Does anyone know how to change the location of the site cache. By default on
xp/2k it is set to documents and settings\username\app
data\macromedia\dreamweaver\config\sitecache. The problem is that users move
around computers but would like to take their settings with them. Therefore I
would like to change the location to a network drive.

The only other alternative is roaming profiles but due to the number of users
we have and profile sizes this is not really an option.

We are attaching via the network. The sites are stored on the users network drives.

my instant comment would be that that's what roaming profiles are for.
if your users move desk to desk, they haven't really got any other way to
take their data with them. Unless they store a huge amount of data in their
profiles, or have very slow machines, or a slow network, there shouldn't be
any problem with usnig roaming profiles...

I have a similiar problem at a school with xp and novell. When students log-in
the username is a temporary profile which disappears when they log out. They
work at the same work station, but the cache files disappear after each log
out, and the students have to recreate their "site" each day.
I assume that "roaming profiles" are a network configuration, and not
something which is set within Dreamweaver.

Any suggestions.

Thanks

A similar problem - our cache is actually saved to our roaming profiles (documents and settings\username\) but we want it saved locally.

Any ideas how to change the location?

I don't think you can. But you might learn more talking directly with
Macromedia....

Paul Boon has/had a set of tools to do this, but his site dwwork.com is
offline afaik. You may be able to contact him through communitymx.com
perhaps.

I've just stumbled across this thread wishing to do the same thing. My network
admins are telling me my roaming profile is too big and causing secondary
problems, so I wanted to move the site cache to a local folder. With two big
sites in Dreamweaver, plus a couple more, the site caches are several 10s of MB.

We have had a delve in the Registry and found a few entries to do with
Dreamweaver's site caches, but nothing that seems to allow us to specific a
path. Anyone hadf a further thoughts since this thread was started?

Thanks, James
