Default Insert Library item into Template region - 05-24-2008 , 04:51 PM

Hi All,
I am a recent (and somewhat unwilling) switcher from GoLive to DWCS3.

I have created a template page with 4 editable regions, each within its own
table cell. In one region I want to insert a Library item which is essentially
a vertical navigation bar of links to other pages. I can type into this region
just fine, but when I try to insert the Library item, I get the warning "Making
this change would require changing code that is locked by a template or
translator." And then it refuses.

I can paste the code into the region in code view and it accepts that, but I
am afraid then the library updates won't work as intended. Is inserting a
library item into a region a normal workflow and should this work?

Insert point: <!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="subnav" --><!--
InstanceEndEditable --></td>

Thanks, Craig

This error is a rather generic one thrown anytime DW's template engine finds
an error in the page. It may actually have nothing to do with locked
regions of the page.

I'm guessing you might have an error in the Library item. Can we see its
code, please?

Hello Murray (and other interested parties)...

Here is a link to our test site. It has details, pages, and a concise
recreation of what leads up to the error. Please take a look and see what you
think. You think it might be an error in the library, but I have not changed
them in any way. They are created by selecting the entire table containing the
links and then making the library.

Thanks for taking a look, I do appreciate it. Craig

Hi, I just typed a more detailed response, but the system lost it - so now the
abbreviated version.... I have not been able to get this working yet. There is
a lot happening between the original and the template, and how that interacts
with the library. I will have time again on Friday to take a closer look. I
appreciate being pointed in the right direction, your comments are helpful. The
problem seems focused on the onload tag, which has to come from someplace.
Please stay tuned as I might have a follow up question on Friday. Thank much
for assisting, Craig

It is being put there (along with the forbidden <body> tag) by DW because
you have applied an image swap to the Library item. You cannot apply
behaviors to Library items, or you will trigger exactly this problem.

Thanks Murray, that explains a lot of things I am seeing. I will be working on
that again Monday or Tuesday - I just hired a new employee and Friday turned
into a training day. Thanks for your help ! Craig
