Default Case-sensitivity - 03-01-2004 , 01:10 PM

I feel silly posting this basic question but I don't know where to post this.
Most websites handle case-sensitivity when the user
manually types in the URL. But that?s not always the situation. Try to open
these links.

[L=http://www.ed2go.com/pgcc/]http://www.ed2go.com/pgcc/[/L]

[L=http://www.ed2go.com/PGCC/]http://www.ed2go.com/PGCC/[/L]

In contrast something like the following will take you to the same site.
www.adobe.com
www.ADOBE.COM
www.aDoBe.com

Even mispellings can sometimes lead you to the same site.
But I'll keep the topic on case-sensitivity.

Does anyone know how most sites handle case-sensitivity.
I know you can create redirects using javascript but I'm sure there is
another way, I'm sure.

Thanks Much

Harold

You are comparing a domain name with internal directory structure which is
not a fair comparison.

But as in your previous example,

http://www.adobe.com/support/training.html is oK

but http://www.adobe.com/suPPort/training.html is not.

In that case, most likely the company had bought similar sounding domains,
or names that are frequently mis-spelled (eg www.gooogle.com)

Domain names are always resolved using all lower case, regardless of
what the user types in. File and directory names are case-sensitive on
Unix/Linux servers and non-case-sensitive on Windows servers.
