Default Cannot Restore Site Data - 07-15-2008 , 02:43 PM

Using Dreamweaver MX 2004 in Vista Ultimate SP1, I cannot restore my
configuration folder.

http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_18736 - states
that I should be able to very simply backup my
%APPDATA%\Roaming\Macromedia\Dreamweaver MX 2004\Configuration folder and
restore it to my new installation (just re-formatted my machine). However,
each time I do this DW renames the Configuration folder to "Configuration-1"
and creates a new, empty Configuration folder when I launch DW. No errors that
I can see, it just won't use the old configuration data. I've tried just
copying the data into the newly created configuration folder and DW still
renames it when I launch DW again. I'm on the same machine running the same OS
as before, just re-formatted. I had over a dozen sites setup and I don't want
to lose them. Please advise!

That's unfortunate, the Adobe document mentioned in the OP doesn't mention
anything about needing to use the registry when manual restoring. I guess I'll
just have to manually recreate dozens of sites - which pisses me off.

Had to delete all of my CS3 Adobe Apps (Mac) because Acrobat wouldn't reinstall
(kept asking for the Flash CS4 disc - which I don't have). Due to checking out
CS4 trial applications. (My advice - DON'T)

Anyway, Dreamweaver has lost ALL of my site information, Sites, Snippets, and
Assets. I've tried using my backed up files to restore everything but so far
nothing has worked. When ever I replace the Configuration folder, DW replaces
it yet again with another Configuration folder that doesn't have any of my
information in it. I've tried replacing everything in that New folder but that
doesn't work either.

This kind of site reference information is really weak and very unreliable if
using the backup material won't help restore my site information.

I too will have to manually restore my site PLUS all of the additional files
used to build and maintain site (Snippets, and Assets).

Dreamweaver is a terrible application and a head-ache.

I thought we were all trying to avoid using the more extreme swearwords.

I spent most of Wednesday trying to update a site in a primary school
using FrontPage without the faintest notion of what was going on. I've
been writing commercial sites for 14 years but never with FrontPage and
I can't even buy a copy to play with so it was straight in - but the
site lives on an education authority server and can only be accessed
using the head teacher's password which is passed out to nobody. I
couldn't even find the location of the files on the many "development"
servers 20 miles away.

The code is a nightmare and full or server side inclusions.

Dreamweaver is bliss.
