Ummmm....

The whole page is wrapped in a layer and everything starts from that layer origin so it lines up??
Close?? Way off??

BINGO!

Right on the money. The only critique I would make is that the wrapper is a
division (not really a 'layer' in the DW sense, since it is RELATIVEly
positioned).

Since the division has auto left and right margins, and an assigned width,
it will center in the browser viewport. When it centers, all its contents
go with it, and you have everything all tickety-boo.

Yay I got it right! Tickety-boo is a good place for everything....thanks for
all your help Murray, you really are a good teacher. Now off to find that new
job..... (too bad there isn't a forum for that!)
