Default Buttons in IE... - 11-06-2005 , 02:05 PM

I like the look of default buttons in IE (the silver). Except for that
annoying blue outline... any way to get rid of it? Applying a color or img
bgr will do it, but completely change the shape and look of the button.

I like the chrome effect - I just want to get rid of the nasty blue line.
Even changing the default link color (which is where I thought the button
was getting its blue) doesn't help.

Hi MS,

Your post is pretty cryptic to me, but could you possibly be talking about
the image link border property? Make sure the border is set to "0", if so.

Aloha,

Jerry

Sorry for being cryptic.. no, I'm not referring to the "border" tag.. I'm
referring to a blue outline that is actually INSIDE the button's borders. I
believe it identifies the button as the one currently active (ie, if you hit
ENTER on the kb, it will go down). There is only one button per page with
this outline... and although I haven't tried it, I'm reasonably confident
that hitting tab in the presence of several buttons will switch the blue
outline from one button to another.

Maybe we can trick the page into not recognizing this button as the
"currently active" one?

Ok, let's start over...when you say IE are you talking about Internet
Explorer? Are you interested in changing the appearance of the IE interface
as a viewer, or are you interested in building a site that uses that style?

In the most recent INTERNET EXPLORER, the default look of the input button
is a chrome one which I find appealing, except for the thin blue outline
that can be seen on its interior surface.

When you place 10 buttons on a page, only one of them has the blue outline.
I assume this means this is the "current" button... ie, the one that presses
down if you hit "Enter" on the keyboard.

How do I get rid of the blue? Changing the default link color (same blue)
doesn't help.

I'm not with you either, can you post an example of what you are talking
about.
You can use css to style a button btw.

I pretty sure the OP is talking about the default look of buttons in Windows
Internet Explorer 6. For example, visit:
http://www.google.com/

When you place the cursor in the search field for Google, a blue inset
appears around the "Google Search" button. If you hover over the button the
inset turns orange.

The only way I know of the disable this effect is to create your own buttons
with images:

She is referring to the link colors that show based on the input of link colors
visited, etc. This will show a box around the image if the color of your link
is different than your background color.

I am having the same trouble with IE and image links. I currently have the
image link colors set to the same color value on my background (white), yet the
image link borders show a blue box around image links ONLY in Internet
Explorer, but NOT on Firefox. It shows properly on Firefox as I coded for
image link colors. By the way, my image links are placed inside a table and
the borders, etc are all set to zero.

Any ideas why Internet Explorer does not read the code properly when Firefox
reads it just fine?

Found the problem... Newsgroup... make sure that the paragraph border inside
the table is set to zero, as well as the table border. If both are set to
zero, the image link border goes away.

Good luck.

Exactly. Thanks, robot.

However, creating your own buttons with images is unnecessarily complex. I'd
have to apply a gradient to the background, define the border, and it STILL
wouldn't have the slightly-rounded corners it has when it's in "default"
mode. Whenever you apply a background image or border colors to a button in
IE, the actual shape of the button changes to pointy corners.

I like the default look... I just find the blue inset annoying.
