Default building to replace old website - 11-01-2004 , 10:45 AM

I currently have a website. I am in the process of starting a new one but it is
crucial i leave the old one up until the new site is complete. How can I build
the new one and have the index.html file on the server. I know I can just have
a folder on the server and build within that but when i am ready to show the
new site I would have to relink everything. Is there a better way of doing this
or does dreamweaver have a process in which it can automatically update yours
links.

Make all of your links
relative to the new folder
Just make them all document relative.

Create your new site all within a folder called "new" (this can
be in
your root directory) so it would be www.site.com/new. Make all of your
links
relative to the new folder and when you are ready to push your new site
all you
have to do is copy all of the files in the new folder to the root and
remove
your old ones first. This does create a down time of several minutes for
as
long as you are removing and uploading your new site. I usually do it
some
time at night when traffic is low.
