Default Backward compatibility of sites developed inDreamweaver 4 - 03-09-2005 , 02:26 PM

We are upgrading our clients. Some clients are still using Dreamweaver v4
while others are using Dreamweaver MX. Has anyone run into any problems taking
created in Dreamweaver v4 or v6 and using them in Dreamweaver MX 2004? I would
like to take clients directly from Dreamweaver 4 to Dreamweaver MX 2004 if
possible without interim conversion steps.

Templates will be your bugaboo here. DMX templates, or legacy templates
which have had their regions edited by DMX will be unusable in DW4. In
addition, DMX design notes give DW4 a big headache.

In my opinion, it's risky.

Since we won't try to use a template in v4.0 after converting to mx 2004, then we shouldn't have a problem. Any other know issues when you convert a dw4 or dw6-developed site to mx 2004?

There would be no problem with a DMX developed site in DMX2004, but the DW4
site could affect your DW4 users once it has been touched by DMX2004, if you
are maintaining design notes (the default in DMX2004, unless you have turned
it off).
