Default Assistance with templates - 11-10-2004 , 11:47 PM

First up, i have looked at many guides and tutorials regarding templates and
i'm still having trouble.....(sorry this is long winded)

All i want is a template with a graphic title/header running across the top, a
graphic menu running down the left side, and the rest to be an editable region.
Cant be too hard surely?arrrgghgh!
How exactly is the best way to achieve this? Previously I would make the title
and menu graphics in fireworks, paste them into the newly created blank
template, and then try to make the remaining region editable, and everytime I
do this I have problems?..mainly along the ?the editable region is very tall
and skinny running parallel to the side menu and cant be made bigger? type
problems.

The I tried to make a layout, by making a layout table fill the screen (of a
new template) and then make some layout cells in the rough shape I wanted,
however when I paste my two graphics in, they wont line up (I realize the wont
line up in dreamweaver view, but the refuse to line up in the browser more
spefically).

So again what is the best way to achieve my goal?, most guides on the net
assume you have already got the regions/areas you want all set out, then you
can just apply/make the template designating the regions as editable or
repeating etc.

Just for the record, I am not an all round imbecile, that affliction seems to
be restricted to my ability (or lack thereof) to make webpages, I have been a
hardware technician for ten years, and am over halfway through my BIT??.please
help!

Even suggestions would be nice (except the, stick your head in a hole and
never use DWMX again), which reminds me, I?m using DWMX 2004 v7.something if
that helps??

Take a look at this:

I have supplied a zipped file for the files used in the above example. You
are welcome to download the files and check out how I put this basic
template together.
