Assigning IDs to elements in tables

Hi,
I am new to dreamweaver, and am creating my first Spry Data Set after watching
a great video tutorial.
I have my Data File (html) ready, but when I select it as the source for my
Data Set, i get an error message saying 'No selectable elements found. Make
sure you've assigned IDs to the elements you want to select'.

I've tried from within this dialog box, and when I'm in the data file itself,
to assign my columns IDs, or Data Containers, but I am having no luck, and
therefore can't proceed any further with my Spry Data Set. Adobe help has not
helped me so far!

Can anyone tell me how I can assign IDs?
