Assets question

I notice that my Assets window continues to display icons for long deleted files from my site. Even after I hit the refresh/update button. How do I truly clean out these "ghost" file icons? They really clutter up the assets panel and diminsih the usefulness of the window. Some of the icons are from files I've removed from the server and deleted from my hard drive several months ago. Thanks in advance for any help.

Haas:

Use SITE | Recreate Site Cache.... and see if that helps. Alternatively,
you could delete the site's definition and remake it.
