Default AGAIN - What am I doing wrong????? - 01-25-2004 , 05:13 PM

Ok, 1st off I'd like to thank Jim and Stephen to responding to my prior post about getting borders around an image.

This question is a take off of that one. If you go here: http://www.rockfordrealestate.biz/dolinka/services_test.htm - if you hover over the 1st image, titled "accounting advice" you'll notice that I get the desired effect - sort of. I have tried centering the image within the table with no success.

Anyone have any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? As a side note, all the images on that page are 160 x 80. In order to get the background color to show up, I resized the accounting advice image to be 158 x 78 to give the look of a 1 pixel border on the mousehover effect and a white border on mouseout. Not sure what I'm doing wrong and would appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Scott

Hi,

This is just a thought, but have you considered just putting the "border" on the actual image and just using a rollover to change the images? Or, don't have the arrow there until the mouse is over the image then make the "arrowed" image the second image. Rollovers are very easy to do in Dreamweaver and will be consistent in all browsers. As long as the image files are small enough it will not be a problem for even dial-up users.

On a side note: personally, I hate when right-clicks are disabled. You force me to use your page a certain way (not being able to open links in new windows) and I would therefore probably leave the site for this reason. Just something to consider. Your page looks good though.

Shawn

For what it's worth, I won't go to a page to help if I know that right
clicks are disabled.

Seeing the code is more important than seeing the page. That's how the
problems can be seen.

Your problem is caused by several things. One you have that first image
sized in code differently that the actual size of the image. Change it back
to 160x80 pixels. You also have set the cell widths to be 158. Remove all
those.
If you want a 1pixel border add 1 pixel padding to the cells. The amount of
padding is the size of the border.

<td valign="top" height="456" width="546"><table cellpadding="1"
cellspacing="0">

Actually, you don't have to do this.

Thanks Shawn.

I know what you're saying with respect to the right click options disabled. I was thinking about that myself when I wanted to build myh own set of right click menu's. So, it's something I'm looking at.

Got alot to learn and this is a good first start I think.

Actually, you should though since widths are so ineffective....
