Default adobe go live and MX question - 06-25-2004 , 10:21 AM

Does anyone know if Adobe GoLive is compatible with dreamweaver? Or if there
is an extension to easily migrate a go live site to dreamweaver. I have a
possible client who did a site himself with Adobe but is having problems.
My gut feeling is that it would be easier to redesign the site with mx, and
take it from there, but I just learned that he's already created a multitude
of pages.

Is there an easy way?

Kind thanks

Louise

Try opening the index page in Dreamweaver and see what happens? I think
in the long run your best bet is to redesign the site in Dreamweaver.

Linda, thank you! I will get the site early next week, I've just looked at
the source code from a test page, and it's pretty confusing.

I have gone through the same thing before. The problem is that Go Live
default mode is an equivalent of the "layout" mode in Dreamweaver, it
lets you drag and drop things on your page, and the resulting code is a
nightmarish maze of thousands of <td> and <tr>, collspan and rowspans...

I tried to deal with it until I realised it was just a waste of time,
and eventually rebuilt the site from scratch.

Adobe Golive has a feature that you can export the entire site and strip out
all of the proprietary code (which is a lot). Where you'd probably run into
problems is if the site was built with the Adobe Golive Actions (JavaScript
stuff).

You can download a free 30-day demo of Adobe Golive and see if that'll work
for you. I gave up on Golive a couple of versions back so I don't have any
recent experience with the application.

You can possibly get some answers over at Adobe's User-to-User Forum too. They
have one forum for Golive Windows and another for Golive Macintosh.

Weird.

Thank you! I think we're going to redesign in dreamweaver as much as
possible. I'll check out the code stripping option, that's very helpful
information, thank you

thanks for this answer. I did download the trial version of adobe, but see
nowhere where I can do this export option and strip out all that code. Do
you know>

I'm going to redesign the site starting from scratch, but there are many,
many product pages, that I think I can salvage. maybe.
