Default 800x600 or 1024x768? - 06-11-2004 , 12:45 AM

I am wanting to redesign my web site and am wondering what others feel is the
standard or most common size today. I presently have my site designed @ 800x600
and just want to know what others think on this.

Thanks.

You need to accomodate *any* window size - not resolution . not the same
thing ... see here for more info:
http://www.thepattysite.com/window_sizes1.cfm
You need to think about building 'flexible' layouts. If you are using
tables, check out the flexible table tutorial link in my sig.

Topic beaten to death. Search the forum and you'll get a lifetime worth
of reading. In short, here's what the posts says:

1. Use flexible width if possible. Look e.g. here:
http://www.dwfaq.com/Tutorials/Tables/flexible_tables.asp
2. If you can't, try stick to a 750-770px wide design since it'll make
room for scroll and will fit in most monitors:
http://www.thecounter.com/stats/2004/May/res.php
3. Screen resolutions has nothing to do with the width of the browser
window: many 800 x 600 users have full screen mode. Many with higher
resolutions keep the browser window less wide/high. I have 1280 x 1024
(actually two monitors, so I have 2560 x 1024) and rarely have the
browser wider than 800px and I think I'm pretty representative.
