Default "550 permission denied" message? - 07-09-2003 , 09:40 AM

I posted this question over on the UltraDev forums, but got no responses.

Anyway, one hosting company for a site that I maintain uses a different type of directory structure than I'm used to, one that is less user-friendly. Instead of uploading to a "www" directory for the web pages and to a "database" directory for the database, I have to upload the webpages to /d:/webroot/myclient/ . And for the database I have to upload to /d:/webdata/myclientdata/ .

I had a system crash on my Mac on Sunday, and had to re-install a bunch of programs, and go back in UltraDev and define all my sites from scratch. All of them work except the one above.
I can upload plain html files to the server, but if I try to upload an asp page, I get a message saying "unable to create remote folder /d:/webroot/myclient/_notes/. "

Also, when I try to test the connection (which is a dsn_less connection that I know worked before), I get an "unidentified error" message as well as a "unable to create folder /d:/webroot/myclient/_mmDBScripts/ 550 d:ermission denied" message.

The guy who runs the hosting company is a real jerk, and has refused to help me. (He's still mad because my client had me do the site and not him).

It's my understanding that a "550 permission denied" message means that the server's permissions will not allow the user to write to the server.

At any rate, does anyone have an idea of what's going on here?

Thanks much for any replies.

Dick

Dick:

I suppose changing hosts is not a possibility? There is no reason to PAY
for this kind of support, you know?

Try disabling the design notes for the site. That should take care of the
first problem. I'm not sure about the second one, though.

Seems like you don't have permission to create folders; I agree with
Murray, you may want to try switching hosts.
