Default 2 questions - 07-01-2005 , 02:25 AM

Hi all,

another question to answer for me

- I got style.css linked to site root but i think i can better link it to
document? but i got like 80+ pages to change it so rather not do that :P

- maybe this 1 is not needed because it might be involved in question above,
never the less...
i saved all 80+ pages to 1 map (little messy in my eyes) so i want to make
maps but when i copy/move the pages to a new location (still talking about
local hard disk, not uploaded anything yet) i loose my style.css settings and
fonts, lay-out is all messed up....

now heres the thing, this happened when i try to copy or move the pages
outside DW
but when i save them in DW to another location its all good...

im worried that when i try to put em online this will happen too and i would
like to just put em in maps before uploading
and with 80+ (soon over 100 pages, my boss wants it this way cause he wants
html so he can manage it himself if im gone) i dont wnt to open all pages in DW
and save em seperatly...

if the question is a little blurry to you people im sorry just say so ill try
to elaberate...

don't know exactly what you mean, but a guess-

Are you trying to do a Save As to some location outside of this site's Local
Site Folder? That will break every link in the page you do this to.

And: What exactly do you mean when you use the word Map ??

Yes, i think so. You need to upload your css file too.
You can mail me in Dutch, if you prefer.

No. The thing is to NOT ever do a Save As to outside of this site's Local
Site Folder. There is no reason to do this- If you think there is- explain
what you are trying to do and I'll tell you how to do it without screwing up
all the links.

Why are you trying to do a Save As outside of this site's Folder?

You'll find a clear explanation here:
http://www.hcc-westbrabant.nl/cursus.htm#1

Don't move files after you have linked to them or they will not be
found. Upload your site in the same configuration as you have on your
local site, i.e: if your css file lives in your main folder, upload it
to that folder too. Usually DW takes care of this automatically, so
don't worry.

Succes.

ok ty for all the clear reply's i think i got it now

1 thing though: local site is just where i put all my stuff right?
(i should make it same structure as i want to upload to server? - sounds
obvious)

only thing im not clear about is when i link (for ex. .css file) i can choose
between link to document or link to site root.
whats the difference between those?

no need to explain previous questions cause replys were sufficient

Nine times out of ten you need document relative links.
