Default 15 year old aspiring kid needs help =) - 07-12-2004 , 05:01 PM

Hey, Ived decided to take web design to the next level. I used to use
frontpage2000 and I would make sites for videos games and such, but I have
started to realize what a basic program it is. I just downloaded the trial
version of dreamweaver, and I will buy studio mx after i have tried all the
programs(student discount =] ).

My Ultimate goal is to team up with my mom who is a professional graphic
designer and make web sites for money. Just like you pros.

So far I have learned to use css, and right now im trying to learn how to
produce drop down menus. I haven't quite been able to figure out how to do it.
I found one website but the problem was it wasnt for mx 2004. It was an older
version. If anyone could give me a link to how to do this. That would be great.

When my dad gets back from work Im going to the library to see if there are
some books I can check out. I was wondering if anyone had some good
recommendations.

Also any website or advice that could help get me started.

Thanks, Evan

Are you an aspiring kid? Just wondering.

As for your questions, there are a zillion ways to make dropdowns in DW. I'd
suggest going to the Exchange (on the Macromedia site) and type "dropdown
menu" and see all the extensions.

WARNING: Whatever you do, don't make your menus in Fireworks!!!!!

Also understand some of the usability and accessibility issues that
drop-down menus can introduce. The PVII method is perhaps one of the best
ways to approach it.

You can't legally use the academic version to produce web sites
professionally. You'll have to fork out the full price, just like the rest
of us!

My main suggestion would be to drop the 'age' bit in your sales pitch. If
your web sites are good enough, you're old enough.

I'd suggest you have a search around for suitable tutorials on the internet.
Here's some

Lol hey man I'm not trying to sell web design to any1 here. They all are better than me. The student edition comes with everything in Studio Mx 2004. So it is the same as what you pros get. =)

I'm also 15 :P... I hadn't brought it up because I didn't feel a reason too.
Age doesn't matter when it comes to web design, you can take my word for that.
If you want to make dropdown menus I recommend using layers especially for the
new web designers (young and old).
There's a good tutorial at projectseven.comhttp://www.projectseven.com.

And don't let anyone ever tell you that you can't do it.

If you want my msn to discuse dropdowns or overall webdesign more it's
f_l_a_s_h_b_a_c_k (at) hotmail.com I'm in eastern time and I'm normaly on
late.

I realise that; but my comment about being old enough when you're good
enough relates to web design in general; if you can develop good web sites
that fulfil the clients requirements, then they won't care if you're 15 or
50 (as long as you don't use the phrase 'any1' in the copy - that's a slight
giveaway! :-p )

Not correct. It comes with a different licence which you have to agree to.

In terms of the tools, yes - it's the same product. It has to be, otherwise
it wouldn't be much good for learning from. But it is directed at people who
are ONLY using it for learning, hence the lower price. Macromedias intention
is that you use the academic version to learn, then purchase the full
version once you want to start making money out of it.
