Default Table Sort - 08-10-2005 , 01:54 PM

I am using sorttable.js to sort a table which works fine which allows a
user to sort the table by clicking on the column header. Is there some
code I could add to the page (onload or something) to auto sort by the
first column without user clicking on it. Here is the sorttable.js
code.

addEvent(window, "load", sortables_init);

var SORT_COLUMN_INDEX;

function sortables_init() {
// Find all tables with class sortable and make them sortable
if (!document.getElementsByTagNam*e) return;
tbls = document.getElementsByTagName(*"table");
for (ti=0;ti<tbls.length;ti++) {
thisTbl = tbls[ti];
if (((' '+thisTbl.className+' ').indexOf("sortable") != -1) &&
(thisTbl.id)) {
//initTable(thisTbl.id);
ts_makeSortable(thisTbl);
}
}

}

function ts_makeSortable(table) {
if (table.rows && table.rows.length > 0) {
var firstRow = table.rows[0];
}
if (!firstRow) return;

// We have a first row: assume it's the header, and make its
contents clickable links
for (var i=0;i<firstRow.cells.length;i+*+) {
var cell = firstRow.cells[i];
var txt = ts_getInnerText(cell);
if (cell.getAttribute('sortsuppre*ss')) {
continue;
}
cell.innerHTML = '<a href="#" class="sortheader"
onclick="ts_resortTable(this);*return false;">'+txt+'<span
class="sortarrow">&nbsp;&nbsp;*&nbsp;</span></a>';
}

}

function ts_getInnerText(el) {
if (typeof el == "string") return el;
if (typeof el == "undefined") { return el };
if (el.innerText) return el.innerText; //Not needed but it is
faster
var str = "";

var cs = el.childNodes;
var l = cs.length;
for (var i = 0; i < l; i++) {
switch (cs[i].nodeType) {
case 1: //ELEMENT_NODE

If you give each table heading link a unique ID (I did it here by

You can call the sort function and send it any link you want, at the end
of the init function:

ts_resortTable(document.getElementById('table0_a0' ));

Since you're coding it by hand, you have to make sure the link exists, I
didn't write any error checking).

Modify which table is sorted by changing the table id part of the string:

table0_a0
table1_a0
table2_a0

MOdify which column is sorted by changing the link number:

table0_a0
table0_a1
table0_a2
