Default Web page looks mis-aligned ! - 08-22-2003 , 10:48 PM

Hello,
My webpage looks fine on my computer using IE v6.0, but looks way
mis-aligned on my friend's computer eventhough he is using IE v6.0
also. Why is this happening? I do remember his IE saying something
about Virtual Java machine should be installed a while back, but not
sure if this has anything to do with it. Any thoughts? thanks.

BTW, the webpage is http://www.myhousephoto.com

The HTML on that page is frightening. I'm going to have nightmares.
NetObjects Fusion is hands down THE WORST website creation tool on the
market. That's saying something, because I thought FrontPage was the worst
until I saw your page.

The table you're trying to create is amazingly simple.
It is 7 columns and 4 rows (one of which a header row)
It does not need all that bloat that was created by NetObjects.

I recommend a weekend with a good book on HTML. Your local used book store
probably has some treasures.
Look for anything published by Sams or O'Reilly and you should be set.

OK, I admit I had to look. (What do they call that? - road accident
syndrome or something?) And I can only agree - quite unbelievably bad.
Throw Fusion away immediately.

David's estimate of 10% was pretty close to the mark as well: witness
http://www.xs4all.nl/~sbpoley/misc/m...photo-new.html which has a
size of just under 2kb compared to the original of 24Kb. OK, it probably
needs a little tidying still, but that only took me 40 minutes.

Amazingly enough, that site's code is actually an *improvement* over the
code older versions of NetObjects Fusion used to create... the Fusion
people seem to have tightened up their code a little, using somewhat
fewer and less complex nested tables, fewer blank spacer images, and
actually putting proper empty ALT attributes on the spacers they do
insert. The fact that the resulting code is *still* an unholy mess
gives a good idea of how absolutely gross the *old* NetObjects code used
to be.
