In brief: any recommendations for a text editor for Windows that is free
or very cheap which is specifically suited to HTML?

Take a look at http://wojanware.com/features.aspx

It's free and similar to FrontPage.

The best editor I know is HTMLEdit (Phase5)
http://www.ftp-uploader.de

(you must look around little bit until you find the download button for
phase5)

ya, but i guess i'm going to have to learn danish, or wait till i have more
time to fool around.
Danish?
I thought it is German. Now you see how we feel using English speaking
software all the time ;-)

But I think even if you don't understand most of the text you will be
able to handle htmledit quite well after short time.

Werner :-)
