Can anyone explain why the <root (AT) hiddenworld (DOT) net

There is no "root (AT) hiddenworld (DOT) net" tag, so it's pretty clear why
that doesn't render as text. I could ask why your other similarly
coded one does render as text, but when you have invalid HTML all
sorts of oddities are to be expected.
Recode your < and > correctly as < and > and both should
display as you wish.
