Default Question about Free HTML editors - 03-21-2008 , 04:37 PM

A friend asked me

Quote:
Can you recommend a good, free HTML/webpage editor?
I haven't kept up with these things, either coding
with vi or my own special-purpose programs so I
don't know what's available. The user will have at
least moderate computer expertise, i.e. can use
text editor, browser, FTP, find things in file
system, etc. Any suggestions?

Notepad++

and it's free!

As you have mentioned vi I can suggest Bluefish which I have used for
a long time now, great program but Linux only.

I once gave Nvu a brief try. The result was passed as okay by the W3C
validator.

It's available for Windows, Macs, and UNIX. See <http://www.nvu.com/>.

Having learned how to hand-code HTML, I use Wordpad.

Have you been using Netscape and now feel abandoned by AOL?
Then use SeaMonkey. Go to <http://www.seamonkey-project.org/>.

Being an real vi crack myself I am now using the "kompozer" for web sites. Works fine and I like the ccs editor very much! It
still allows you to do HTML coding as well. Very nice thing and easy to use!

I've used Notepad++ and it works great. Screem is good for linux OS's
and is a good syntax highlighter with some basic shortcuts.

KompoZer 0.7.10 is more advanced (a bit more features, several
language packages) and has about 100 bugs fixed from Nvu 1.0.
Nvu is no longer being developed; KompoZer is still being maintained.

One question for datapunk79 and you:

How do you install HTML Tidy to work with the latest Notepad++ version
4.8.2?
Does Notepad++ create valid markup code out of the box? with its
default settings?

Regards, Gérard
