Anyone any idea about how to filter the complete lunatic that is posting
all these odd subjects like "Re: .CPHTM(C) 2009. Mode/Code (TM)
Language is a trademark of M. Michael Musatov ..."?

I filter on
From contains musatov
Subject contains (TM)
Subject contains ™
Results: mark message as read; ignore thread

I haven't seen any messages from him in almost a week.

By the way, I'm preparing a FAQ on dealing with newsgroup noise: spam,
trolls, flames, and floods. It will be a few weeks before it's ready.
I post a message to this newsgroup when it's available to the public.

Don't ask "Why is there road rage?" Instead, ask
"Why NOT Road Rage?" or "Why Is There No Such
Thing as Fast Enough?"

Please do, yes, I am very simple in my filtering techniques. These ways
have worked for me fine so far.

Thanks for the suggestions from all for the present problem, I should be
able to avoid said person from now on.

You could always drop in news.software.readers where filtering is one of
the big subjects. Nobody would probably mind too much that you are using
a Mac .

It appears to me the same URI appears in the Subject header of all
these posts. Kill on that.
Kill on "@gmail.com" ... problem solved, and many, many others.

Filtering on gmail.com is *not* filtering on google gropers. Only about 70%
of google gropers use gmail and a lot of normal people (non google gropers)
do use email.

Unfortunately, Greg is using a newsreader that doesn't have the
capability of filtering on the Message-ID, so he may be reduced to
killing (most) GGers by the email domain name. :-(

I'll just get in a quick goodbye to all of the people who follow your
advice. It was a pleasure talking with you.
