I'm looking for a good up-to-date, or as up-to-date as possible
freeware html editor. Any suggestions

Emacs (with nXML mode) and HTML-Kit are decent choices.

AceHTML is a good one. Or Arachnophilia if you have Java installed.

I love Arachnophilia, but not the Java one. I've been using the
pre-Java version (4.0) for a long time and love it. If you can find
it grab it.

http://www.netpadd.com is freeware and open-source. You better just
download the needed files instead of the setup. It's a plain
text-editor with many extra-web authoring features. Like syntax
highlighting for PHP/JSP/ASP.
