Why is it that I posted a new message to this group and it got posted
under someone elses post changing the subject of the message to my
subject. That makes no sense.

Anyonw have any idea?

I can see two posts made by you under the subjects "layers" and
"menu"...each is starting a new thread exactly as it should...if there is
a problem it must lie with the way you are accessing news

what are you using?...the headers imply Google which I don't recall such
problems with

Maybe you can be more specific, with header information etc, but I see
two posts by you, one with th e subject of "layers" and one with th e
subject of "menu". Both on 9/18.

OK, I created a new post to comp.infosystems.www.authoring.stylesheets
but insted, my message is not a new topic it became a reply to
someone elses. If you open the posting with a subject "layers" or
"menu", you will see that I am not a creator of the subject. why????
I should be.

This is your header information and I see no posts where there is that
problem. "you will see that I am not a creator of the subject." You
are the thread starter as far as I can see. This is getting way off
topic for this group, but it sounds like you have a problem on your
end. Can you contact your organizations tech support?

Just a word...

This can happen, I've found, in Outlook Express. Is that your newsreader
client? I don't know the reason why it happens... but if you go in and clear
all the messages in the newsgroup and then reload, you should find your
posts in the right location.

Who in their right mind uses OE?????????? "Maggie" appears to be using
Google Groups anyway.

They look fine on my newsreader.

Are you reading news with google, by any chance? Gooja has a quirk in
which any post with the same subject line gets stuck in the same
"thread."

Chuckle! I believe I am in my right mind, and have some IT literacy, and I use
OE!

But I'm not trying to restart "news-reader wars". Here is an option for those
who are irritated (like I was) with OE, but would rather improve it than
replace it.

I use an excellent addition to Outlook Express. It sorts out lots of problems
such as mixed-up quote marks, redundant blank lines at the top, redundant
signatures, etc. It has options about initial cursor positioning & displaying
emoticon images.

It is called OE Quote Fix:
http://home.in.tum.de/~jain/software/oe-quotefix/

It not only helps write much cleaner articles, it helps you read them too. I
see different levels of quoted text, and signatures, etc, in different
colours. (This is just to do with styles on the screen - it doesn't force you
to write in HTML or any extended text format). Judging by what other people
say about their different newsreaders, it makes OE into quite a good
newsreader.

Of relevance to this NG: the colours are actually simply styles in a style
sheet supplied by default with the product. It assigns a class to each level
of quoting, and you can change them. (I don't know how far it supports the
full CSS standards. I haven't bothered to investigate).

Just make sure you read the following, which caught me out at first. (It is an
MS bug that hit OE Quote Fix).
http://home.in.tum.de/~jain/software...tefix/faq.html

It is free (but you can donate if you choose). I've been using it sucessfully
for months, and I've recently upgraded. It is a "non-destructive" product, in
that it doesn't replace OE or other system components, it simply forms an
environment within which OE appears to behave differently. You can still call
OE directly.
