I have a client who is fixated on using the Avant Garde font. I know a
lot of PC's don't have it, so I've hunted for a fall-back font to
list. But does anyone have a suggestion for getting the Avant Garde
look on a Web page?

Don't search engines read alt text?
I googled that (changing "don't" to "do") and got this as 1st result:

Any insight on this? Anybody?

Century Gothic
This is an interesting thread. I've avoided getting into embedded
fonts, but maybe I'll try it in the future.
For now, however, a decent alternative font is my best option. I don't
know how I missed that Century Gothic is a great choice. Thank you.

I put up a page, <http://cfajohnson.com/testing/alt.html>, which
has nothing but an image with the alt text "Toronto SEO test".

A google search for "Toronto SEO test" (with the quotes) finds the
page.

So it does. It does not seem to rank very highly without the quotes. I
guess that we could surmise that the info from 2005:

The ALT text is indexed, but it is down graded in the algorithm.¹

is still current.

I wouldn't expect a page like that, with no content, to rank highly
at all. With the quotes, it is the only page returned (besides this
thread).
