Oh and there are almost no public phones around here. What would be the
point when every one has a cell phone?

Sorry, I didn't see that. But, yes, I found several entries, and then
realised that Americans call it pharmacy, while English call it chemist.
Using chemist, my results were even better.
Please show how...

take a look at http://www.hwg.org/ they have been around since the web
began
But are they any good?

Have anyone here joined the organisation. Or followed any of the classes or
taken a full certificate.

Why should one take classes if one are not certain to benefit from it.

That they have been around for a long time, does not prove quality, spam
have been around just as long and there is no quality in that.

Here in the D.C. area, you'll be lucky to find a working phone (one
without missing parts). Your chance of finding a phone book are
virtually non-existent.

It's changed that much? I used to live there, but moved away 5 years
ago. Between DC and the SF Bay Area, I think I prefer DC.
I don't think it's just DC. Pay phones have pretty much disappeared
*everywhere* due to the proliferation of cellphones, and I can't
remember the last time I saw a booth with a phone book in it.

for a taxi, hotel, restaurant, or whatnot. Frankly, I still don't
see the attraction to mobile phone web browsing. I guess it can be
a convenience in some cases, but most of the time I think it would
be more efficient to get information other ways.
I remember once a bunch of friends were at an event in a town we didn't
know. We wanted to find someplace to go for dinner afterward. But we
didn't want to go very far out of our way.

I got out my Palm & looked up nearby restaurants - had it show me where
they were in relation to my present location, and to the route home. We
got a full list, including Indian, Chinese, etc.

Can't do that with 411...
