Notepad. C'mon, it's HTML, not rocket surgery.

Care to point me at a URL you have built with Notepad using
styles?
Anything will do, I am easily impressed :-/

a web-author will soon feel the limitations of any authoring tool and
switch to something with less or no constraints like a simple text
editor. therefor, you can be sure that practically any site that is of
any economic relevance that is was build using a text editor as the main
tool !
to learn html or css you can use an authorin tool, although, they will
also teach you their bad habits.

<http://www.google.de/search?q=created-with-notepad>

And yes, most of those are meant ironicly, just like Sherm did. See:
<http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node=This%20Site%20Created%20With%20Notep ad>
(especially the second sentence).

The point is: use a text editor. Notepad ist just the "starting
edition". There are loads of editors (both general purpose and web
focused) out there that help HTML/CSS authors with syntax highlighting,
build in validation, etc.

Precisely - thank you. Personally, I use BBEdit. It's essentially Notepad on
steroids. Syntax highlighting, validation, Perl integration, etc. - but no
so-called WYSIWYG crap.

Have a look at my resume if you want links. (If you have children, there's a
fair chance you've seen my work already.)

I've been using HomeSite for years. I've tried other programs along
the way, more out of curiosity than anything, but either have found
the others lacking in some regards or I've grown so darn comfortable
using Homesite that I refuse to use anything else. The price can't be
beat, either, even though it now costs twice what it was in 1999.
Funny thing is: I purchased the 5.5 upgrade a couple of years ago and
have yet to install it. I can still do everything I need to do with
ver. 4.5 -- and I still use the original ver. 1.0 from 1996 from time
to time for real quick code updating.
