If you get the FF browser, you can get extensions which, under Tools,
provides validators for both online and off line docs. And the probably
the best validators too!

Thanks again. I use FF routinely, and I'll follow up on your suggestion.

I'd like those -- do you have any idea what they're called?

Web Developer Bar extension

I'm having trouble downloading it, and downloading the latest version of
Sea Monkey to try it out on before trying it on Firefox. I'll reboot and
try again later.

It's less than 200KB even on my poor dialup it is not a issue, how will
rebooting help?

It took a little doing, but I finally manged to pick it up. It has
a lot of cool features.

Unfortunately, its validator seems to require that you be on-line.

A preposition is something that you should never end a sentence with.

Yes, of course! The validator is the W3 validator, all the extension
does is prepare the page for transmission or upload...

If you want standalone validators to install on your local server...

See, I didn't properly understand the phrase "validators for both
online and off line docs." I thought that it meant it could validate
off-line. As soon as I tried to do that, I saw "Could not contact ..."
and realized what was going on.

But, like I said, it has lots of other cool features (most of which
I haven't even explored yet) to make it well worth keeping. So, thanks
for the tip.
