Yes, that's funny. Did you see the web site of the naysayers?
http://www.ie6nomore.com/

<http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ie6nomore.com %2F>
Errors found while checking this document as XHTML 1.0 Transitional!
Result: 25 Errors

Perhaps ... just perhaps ... if they wrote errorless Strict pages, there
would be less of a problem? <lol>

They also don't mention what users of prior-to-XP should be doing with
their IE6. Oh, ok: use Firefox!

The main problem is computers that are running Win2000 - they cannot go
past IE6. Upgrading the browser means upgrading the OS, and that can be
very costly, especially for a small business. Another reason why
integrating the browser with the OS is a BAD idea.

hi Adrienne..

well, that's why I suggested that folks on Win2000 be encouraged to
simply switch to FF.. (you know, I remember when the news came out a
few years ago that IE7 wouldn't run on Win2000 -- mostly for security
reasons, they said; but you know, for security FF is a much better
browser anyway..) this is a very simple solution that does not require
users to upgrade OS or anything of that sort..

Well, I go one step further and suggest they switch to Opera.

One of the other issues though is that some sites just won't "work"
without some flavor of IE. Usually I get around that by using FF's
IEtabs extension, but even then some still don't work correctly, and the
only option is IE. Theses sites are few and far between, usually ones
that do some kind of ActiveX thingy that requires IE.

I happened to be lurking in the microsoft ie beta group when IE8 was
pushed out. There were so many complaints from people who had used, of
all things, Publisher, to create web sites that nolonger worked with IE.
Oddly enough, some of them did work with other standards compliant
browsers, just not IE8.

I wish Microsoft would devote itself to working on a rock solid OS and
stop worrying about a browser.

Err, about Maya's div...
I'm probably the last person on earth to give advice on CSS, but
- I think this is called the 'Holy Grail' problem, so some googling on
that may help
- One way is to make the div one wants to extend to the same height as
the other div have the same background as the body so that the viewer
can't tell that the 'short' div has finished - the lower border of the
short div is the top border of the footer.
- Another is to use javascript to fill up the short div
- And I'm sure there is another way but I can't remember it.

That's what I'm talking about. If Microsoft could keep to doing one
job, and doing it well, then I would be happy. Leave browsers out of
it.

As to the Mac, I had to go work for two days on a Mac and I didn't like
it at all. One of my pet peeves with Microsoft products is that Microsoft is always
trying to guess what you want to do and do it before you do it, a lot of
times incorrectly. What blew me away was that Mac REALLY didn't want me
to do what I wanted to do, it wanted to do what it THOUGHT I wanted to
do. No thank you to the Mac.

It seems to me I remember abc.com was funny when trying to watch a show.
IIRC, it was some kind of plugin that didn't like anything but IE.
AFAIK, Silverlight will also not run in Firefox.
