Formatting dropcap in css

Hi,

I would like to use a dropcap. From a tutorial site on the Web I
copied this declaration:
p.dropcap:first-letter {
font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 2.0em; font-weight:
bold; float: left; color: #ff0000;
}

I applied that to css using Owen Brigg's text-sizing alternative

I get a dropcap, but there is a vertical gap above and below the
dropcap letter now. (ie a vertical gap between the top of the letter
and the top line of the paragraph) Is there a way to address that, or
would I be better off forgetting about dropcaps?

Did you try adjusting the value of line-height? I tried this:

line-height: .3em;


Also, do you like any of these:

And did you look around for different approaches using google? There are
lots of great examples for you to look over and see various ways to get
different looks.
