Default float problem - 11-15-2004 , 02:52 AM

Hi!

I've logo on the left top corner and on the right top corner is menu,
select language and date. This must looks like:

Logo Menu#1 Menu #2
Select Language
Date

In IE6.0, 5.5 looks very well, but in Firefox 1.0 the space between
select lang and date is too big. In Opera 7.5x menu is not in the same
line (inline). In IE5.0 when I mouse over menu the screen goes down.(??)

What is wrong ?

i don't use IE5.5 or 6, i'm not interested in such old and crappy
browsers and i get a horizontal scrollbar so my immediate reaction is
to hit my back button and go to the next site that adjusts to my
setup, not expects me to adjust to the authors setup.
I'm interested in this. Whilst fixed width design, I agree is not a good
thing; what are your feelings on divs with percentage widths (see e.g. one
of a set of pages I'm trying to put together for a small project at
<URL:http://www.stephanbird.org.uk/Album/caravans1.html> )?

On a related note, is it possible to find out the height (of a horizontal
scrollbar) server-side i.e. without javascript or variants (naturally things
like height: 110% don't work)?
