Wouldn't a simple spreadsheet have done?

The data actually comes from the U.S. Navy. I use a perl script to
basically do a 'wget', then parse the output to create the page.
HTML/CSS seemed like a reasonable way to get what I wanted. Plus,
as mentioned in a previous post, I'm trying to learn CSS so this
seemed like a good way to stick my toe in the water (even if just
a little).

Well, maybe we have somehting in common!
I have a tendency to do things the most difficult way, simply to prove
it can be done!
CSS us not easy.
