Default Advice needed for layout - 11-15-2003 , 04:01 PM

Im designing a page with a pretty standard header, sidebar,
maincontent, footer style layout.
I designed it so the footer is always displayed correctly as
everything is contained within a div which stretches across the main
content if it needs to.

Problem is in opera Version 7.11 you get a border at the bottom of the
main content area of approx 1em in size which I do not want there. In
IE6 its about 1px in size which is fine as you can barely see it.

Have a look, in both opera and IE if you can!

It's gone (or at least not visible) in Opera 7.22.

Note that in K-Meleon (using Mozilla 1.5), the border of the login box
overlaps the content text.

I've had the same problem some time ago. It seems that sometimes Opera
adds a margin were it's not supposed to be. You could try it with CSS
and set the margin-bottom of the last paragraph to 0. Putting an empty
div after the last paragraph fixes it too, but is a very bad workaround.

The easiest solution: ignore it. I haven't checked recent Opera but if
it's gone there then you shouldn't care about anymore. People using
Opera 7.xx are able to update their browser and most likely they'll do.
