why you should not assign font sizes in points or pixels, nor use
Verdana.

Why should one not use Verdana? I was told by someone else not to use
Comic Sans, but have heard nothing about verdana. I use Trebuchet - is
there a problem with that?

Me, the very reverse. What is the problem with Comic Sans? (I ask
because a client for a site I am making wants it and I am
thinking of it (a bit reluctantly).

[Note, the question is not about what fallbacks to provide if
folk do not get the Comic Sans font. This bit is easy.]

I have no idea. I was told it was too unpredictable. My entire site
was comic sans, and 'sans' CSS I had some recoding to do. I was told
professional web designers avoided it like the plague.

I must say I prefer the result: look at my site:
http://www.africanbush.co.za
I found that comic sand made it a bit more difficult to read, and
resizing for headers was very unpredictable.

Trebuchet MS. That's ok; it's not an oversized font like Verdana. I use
it as well.

I notice one problem about Comic Sans, it takes up more room,
especially vertically, which adds up to quite a bit on a web
page. Trebuchet MS does not have this fault, and is also not too
stuffy, a bit informal... mmm... this might be my recommendation
instead of Comic (which is a favourite of this client I have. She
won't argue now I have an argument about space! Considering she
wants the site to be as accessible as possible)

Comic Sans might (well, for some degree of might) be ok on a personal
site for headings or whatnot, but not for content text.

I'll use Trebuchet MS for Windows PCs, or just sans-serif, and Georgia
for serif. Georgia seems to work ok for an <h1> too, along with
Trebuchet MS as content.
