Default mystery host - 09-04-2003 , 10:12 AM

I don't know if this is the most appropriate group to post to But it always
seems rather busy with lots of subscribers so here it goes.
For the last 2 months i've has a free site with this new up and coming
company www.exaltedhosting.com (which has provided a excellent service by
the way and who i'd recommend to anyone)
But over the last 3 days all their sites have gone down!!!!!!! This is
unprecedented.
Can anyone out there please shed some light. Thanks.

All I can say is I followed all the steps for the free account,
emailed the guy 3 times, and after a month I still haven't heard
anything. I even called him and he basically said something to the
effect of "we are changing servers but everything will be back to
normal in a few hours" ... well that was last week - teh forums are
still offline...

I think it's a one-man operation or something - I would like to try
the service out for a month for free then if it can stay online then I
would sign up and pay the guy but at this rate it seems like it would
be a problem even if i were going to drop off a sack of gold at the
guy's doorstep with no questions asked...

They may well be a one man operation. Run by Chris Alessi ii. However
when they were up and running they were really good. Probably about
the best free/low cost web host going. They gave you all the server
side scripting extras free and you only had to place a single ad on
your homepage. But as they became more popular people had to wait
longer to get hosted.
I hope they get going again. If you check there website
www,exaltedhosting.com they do seem to be slowwwly coming back to
life...............

I have even emailed the guy saying something to the effect that I'd
like to try out his service for a month and if it works well I will
come on as a pay subscriber after that. That seems pretty reasonable
to me... I wonder how many more weeks I am going to be waiting to hear
from the guy. Either way when I finally get somewhere with this host I
will post here...

In the meantime, do you guys know of any other place to go to that is
good?
I'm just looking for a low cost web host really that I can first try
out for free to make sure I like it...

Stan

http://www.godaddy.com is what I use, about 8 bucks a month. Very user
friendly, and superb tech support like none I have seen before.

OK thanks I will check them out. Hey have any of you been getting mail
bombed recently? I've been getting about 75 emails a day of various
stuff regarding Microsoft patches and updates. Just started
yesterday...
