Default HTML Job Market - 01-14-2008 , 12:09 PM

Just a few questions about the web design industry as it is right now:

What are the necessary languages needed these days?

Can you get a job with just html?

What kind of html projects are you guys working on these days?

What is the best way to find html projects to work on?

Thanks in advance

Yes, but flipping burgers pays better.

"HTML alone" as a job will pay you just above minimum wage. If you
have Jukka's skill level at "HTML alone", then you'll maybe make an
extra dollar. The myth persists that HTML is a low-end skill, and
(more harmfully) that it's only worth understanding as a low-end
skill. As a result, even serious knowledge of it goes unrewarded. A
large part of this is due to a market that can't distinguish between
HTML, Dreamweaver and Photoshop.

If you want to make money from web design, your options are either a
much better rewarded platform than HTML (Flash or COBOL-like suitware)
or else to become a "web design bureau" rather than merely an
employee. You can make money from selling web design services to
customers, but not by being an employee web designer.

Some flavor of server side scripting, some SQL database knowledge,
and HTML and CSs knowledge.

Maybe, but you can get a better job if you know stuff listed above

Just HTML? none, Web? Everything from a mom and pop small business to
Disney (ABC Sports) and SnoopDogg's site.

Depends where you are and if you want a job with a company or if you
just want contract work. In the US, look at getting a headhunter and
places like craigslist.com

If you want to make some REAL money, learn how to program Flash. I
charge almost 200% more for Flash /video work than for non Flash work.

Did you do the video for snoopdogg.com?
I had a look and noticed that the whole site was not done in Flahh
which I was expecting.

I do not do the actual video (wish I did). I do the video players.

If by HTML you mean the other skills involved (CSS, javascript) than
you certainly can. I have a friend in silicon valley and apparently
there's a need out there for people who can figure out how to do some
of the flashier stuff with HTML/CSS. Throw in some other skills (web
development, database, sys admin, etc.) and you should be able to find
a job.
