IMHO don't use either.

Frontpage writes really crappy html with all kinds of junk added.
Absolutely the worst choice except for maybe MSWord. Of the two
dreamweaver writes closer to compliant html.

Instead of using either, if you must have a WYSIWYG program, how about
downloading the latest version of Netscape and using Composer. It's FREE
and the code is fairly compliant.

However, this group is alt.html.WRITERS. I've always presumed that to
mean folks that code in html markup. Many folks in that category started
with NotePad and just added the appropriate markup to their message. It's
the best way to learn.

PS. Outlook Express isn't a very good newsreader either. And certainly a
poor choice for e-mail client.

I totally agree with you. I created my web site, strickly using
Notepad. Made lots of mistakes, but learned so much in the process!!

Consider using design tools and templates furnished by web hosts. You can be
online with a home page in 1/2 hour. Two examples are www.1and1.com and
www.homestead.com. See google for others.

Stones Webwriter is a good one. It's not a WYSIWYG writer, but it's very
easy to use and learn on. It has a dtp feel to it. I learnt html on this,
and still use it.

Netscape's Composer is the most widely used free editor, and it's wysiwyg.
Mozilla Suite Composer is the same thing. The editor is available
seperately, but the seperate version is problematic, called NVU.

As a last resort write something simple in Frontpage or whatever and then open the
source file in notepad. Take a look at the code and figure out what it does
by adding or taking away bits and spotting the difference. We all have to
start somewhere!

I am a new graduate, and by no means an expert but during my HTML classes I
used FrontPage and this was the preferred software at my University.
Personally I use FrontPage and hand coding for the fine tuning. Are you
experienced in hand coding HTML? take a look at this site, it is a homepage
that I designed using this combination of Frontpage and hand coding. Keep in
mind that I am retired military and this is the theme of this page, looking
for my old friends.

No Doc Type which throws the browser into quirks mode, and 47 errors:

CSS errors as well

Fails WAI accessibility tests:

Black background does not provide enough contrast for various elements.
Tables for positioning of elements.
Depreciated markup.
Proprietary markup which may work only for IE, if at all.

And the Number 1 reason not to use Front Page - bloat, takes longer for
the page to load because of unnecessary markup.

Here's what to do:
1. Get rid of FrontPage and get a plain text editor like HTML-Kit, freely
available at http://www.chami.com/html-kit
2. Get a good stylesheet editor, Bradsoft makes a full version of
TopStyle with HTML editing (I don't recommend using it for HTML), and
also a lite version which integrates with HTML-Kit
