Default free or cheap html editor? - 02-22-2005 , 05:16 AM

I use Dreamweaver, but I have some clients who will be making minor changes
to their webpages after I develop them. This will include adding or
changing pictures and text, and some design changes. I don't want to limit
them to a form to make the changes. What is the best cheap or free html
editor that I can recommend to them do do this? They're not gonna go out
and buy Dreamweaver. thanks

Oooh. What does your contract say about responsibilities? How much do
they pay when you have to repair the pages? <g>

WYSIWYG: http://nvu.com/ (stand-alone version of Moz Composer)
[Warning: it messes with your doctype]

Non-WYSIWYG: http://crimsoneditor.com/

I really would strongly suggest against letting them make changes. Let
them make changes with a form. This is especially true if you are doing
anything server side.

If you are doing stuff server side, and you are going to let them get to
the source, I would really suggest NOT letting them use a WYSIWYG - teach
them enough HTML to get them by, and show them what they can and cannot
edit.

All you need is for them to make one change on the index page, like
removing a ; in a PHP statement, and the whole site will go down. Not
good.
